What’s new on the VTK?

While many girls and leaders are taking a little break over the summer to relax and recharge (or go to Girl Scout Camp!), Girl Scouts has been busy releasing lots of new resources, so troops have even more ways to explore, innovate, and have fun! You can find all the exciting new badges and awards listed below in the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK).

Check out the Volunteer Toolkit by heading to www.girlscoutsnyc.org and clicking MY GS in the upper right corner. Choose Volunteer Toolkit, then log in. Confirm ‘Volunteer Toolkit’ then you are ready to explore! Watch these short tutorials to get more familiar with the VTK so you can make the most of this awesome resource!

New Badges

  • 18 Coding for Good badges are available for all levels! Girls can explore and create apps, computer programs, and learn how to make a positive change in the digital world (funded by AT&T and Dell).
  • Nine Cybersecurity badges are available for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (Daisy, Brownie, and Junior cybersecurity badges were released last year). These badges focus everyday online safety (funded by Palo Alto Networks)!
  • 12 Outdoor High Adventure badges are brand new for all levels. Badges include Trail Adventures, Snow Adventures, or Climbing Adventures and guide girls as they take healthy risks, get active, and connect with the outdoors. (funded by The North Face).
  • Three Space Science badges, which were created with help from NASA, were released for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors last year, and they are now available for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Troops can turn their eyes to the sky, learn to observe, and explore how they can get involved in space science (funded by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and led by the SETI Institute).
  • Think Like a Citizen Scientist, a Girl Scout Leadership Journey is now available for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. As with all Girl Scout Leadership Journeys, girls will take action on a community issue important to them using observation techniques, data collection, and share their findings with real-world scientists through an online network (funded by Johnson & Johnson and The Coca-Cola Foundation).

Global Awards

  • This year’s World Thinking Day theme is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion! The requirements to earn the award associated with this annual day of international friendship celebrated by Girl Scouts and Girl Guides, are available on the VTK!
  • The Global Action Award is earned when Girl Scouts complete requirements focused on working towards sustainable development goals in their communities and beyond. Troops can now find these requirements on the VTK!
