Welcome to gsSkyline! The @girlscoutsnyc blog created for you, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York volunteer, which will include council updates, volunteer development opportunities, and of course, ideas for you to bring back to your troop meetings. We also want to hear from you! At bottom of the right column is a “Share Your Story” button for you and your troop to share your experiences leading Girl Scouts in NYC! We know leaders have great ideas and suggestions that can only come from first-hand experience.

Happy New Year! As we step into 2019, many of us have thought about resolutions to put forward. “I want to eat healthy, I want to learn an instrument” Many of these resolutions focus on bettering ourselves, but what if our resolutions came from working together? How can we resolve to make positive changes in our troop and in our communities? At Girl Scouts, we know the power of sisterhood and have seen incredible effects that girls working together has had on the world. Here are a few ways to get you and your troop thinking about how we can do our best this year:

Great for Daisies and up: Put a smile on someone’s face with handmade cards used by City Meals on Wheels. City Meals will attach the cards to meals they deliver to those who need.

• Great for Juniors and up: Collect canned foods or books to donate to a local shelter, such as Project Hospitality. Troops can visit the Project Hospitality food pantry and soup kitchen facility and hear about how Project Hospitality helps children just like them!

Great for Cadettes and up: Volunteer at a race! Help out runners and cyclists by handing out water, pointing them in the right direction, and cheering them on! Check out ways your troop can volunteer with NY Road Runners and Bike NYC.

Working together with your troop to set resolutions that bring about meaningful change in your community and the world is a great way to set the tone for a year of gratitude, kindness, and compassion.
