When Girl Scouts stick together, they can make a huge impact in their community. As Earth Day approaches, girls will focus on making positive impacts on our planet. Check out the following activities to do with your troop for Earth Day and every day!

Get outside:

Check out this Happy Spring in NYC! post covering just a handful of the many parks New York City has to offer. Plan a day to go for a tree walk and have girls work together to identify different species using this NYC Street Tree Guide.

Environmental Literacy Quiz:

How’s your Earth Day knowledge? Your troop can take this quiz together with your Girl Scouts, learning more about the history of Earth Day and environmental leaders with each question.

Leave No Trace:

Learn about best practices when enjoying nature, whether it be on a hike, in a park, or walking down a city sidewalk! This list of 7 guiding principles is a great place to start as girls discover how to be kind to our environment. Keep these guidelines in mind during your next outdoor activity.

Make Your Own:

Reducing our plastic use is one way to help out the earth, and a great way to do that is to say no to plastic bags at the store. Instead, bring your own handmade T-shirt Bag! Here are a couple of DIY’s  for Sew and No-sew versions of reusable, recycled bags that your troop can make.

Join a Local Park Clean-up:

Head out to your local park for these park clean-ups and beautification events , all opportunities for your troop take action and show some love for the planet! Don’t see a project that works for you and your troop? You can request your own and NYC Parks will reach out!

Come Together to Celebrate Earth Day:

Team up with other troops in your Service Unit or Borough to complete any of the activities mentioned above so your girls can increase their environmental awareness and maybe make some new friends! When your troop is ready to celebrate, check out the Girl Scout Earth Day Celebration at the Prospect Park Zoo , the Earth Day Service Project at Camp Kaufmann, the week-long Earth Day Celebration with Urban Day Camp , along with many other Earth Day celebrations across NYC this month.
